Intergenerational Play
At Briary Preschool we recognise that we are part of a larger community and we would like to tell you about an exciting opportunity that we have been taking take part in, a joint venture with a local care home in Herne Bay at Barchester, Herne Place Care Home.
Intergenerational play sessions have become popular and research into the benefits for both the children and the older generation spending time together is well documented and ongoing, you may have seen the various programmes on TV of preschools and residential homes working together. We visit the care home once every two weeks, during the visit we will engage in play and movement, art and craft activities, singing together, sharing a drink and a biscuit, as well as allowing our preschool to reach into the community and help others.
We have visited the care home and met with their Manager Hadrian, they have also met some of the residents and they are very excited to hear of our forthcoming visits. We have carried out a detailed risk assessment and have agreed security and safety procedures to ensure that the children and the residents are kept safe at all times.
We have also had lovely visits from our friends at Herne Place Care Home, who visited for Sign n’Rhyme with Cara and Floppy Dog, we sang old favourites including ‘My bonnie lies over the ocean’ and ‘Daisy, Daisy give me your answer do’ A special treat for our twins, whose ‘Grandad Man’ came too. We shared cake and savouries, and a quick tour of the preschool too.
Below you will see pictures of our little ones engaging with the residents.
